Well now Bigmista will be gone again. Ttraveling to Texas for another fundraiser. Not the annual one he does for his mom's church. This time he's been asked to help out his friend the legendary John Mueller.
For the last three years local non-profit, Eat for a Cause, has successfully raised money to benefit Houston's homeless veterans through their event partner U.S. Vets. The successful fundraiser is built on the reputation of John Muller, a 3rd generation pitmaster whose food has been featured in Texas Monthly and the New York Times. One year they cooked 2600 lbs of meat and sold out in 3 hours.
This year John has solicited the help of barbecue buddies Ronnie Killen of Killen’s Barbecue in Pearland, Wes Jurena of Pappa Charlie’s Barbeque in Houston, and Neil Strawder of Bigmista’s Barbeque in Los Angeles.
They are taking over Cottonwood Bar & Grill, where they will smoke over 1,500 pounds of brisket, beef ribs, sausage, boudin, and turkey which will be for sale by the pound. This kid-friendly event features live music, a silent auction, with t-shirts and koozies for sale. Proceeds go to help local homeless vets. You can wet your whistle at the Cottonwood bar which serves hand-made cocktails, wine by the glass, $2 Lone Stars, and over 40 beers on tap.
