There is an easy way to store large amounts of ground beef in your freezer. Seperate the beef into 1lb piles. Put the piles into 1 quart ziploc freezer bags. Smush (yes I said smush) the piles flat until they an even thickness and fill up the corners. Get as much air out as you can and seal the bag. (See the picture above.)

This technique is good for 3 reasons:

  1. The packages are flat and therefore stackable. This means they will take up less space in your freezer.
  2. There is less chance of freezer burn because you squeezed all of the air out.
  3. Because it is flat and of the same thickness it will thaw out faster. Plus you know exactly how much meat you have right away
